The Grimes Leadership Academy invited a representative from The Home Place to participate in a panel discussion of nonprofits in Grimes, Iowa. The purpose was to inform the members of the Leadership Academy of nonprofits in the area and share information about their mission and goals. Doug Rothfus spoke on behalf of The Home Place.

“The Leadership Academy is a premier 9-month leadership experience designed for individuals who live, work, or serve in the Grimes area. Participants gain tools to grow as leaders in their workplaces and communities — while forming deep connections with others who share that same drive.”

Thank you to The Grimes Leadership Academy and The Grimes Chamber for inviting The Home Place to participate and allowing us to help build awareness and understanding about our mission of building a housing option in Grimes for individuals with disabilities, independent seniors and adults of any age that would like to be a part of this welcoming, inclusive community. 

The Home Place hosted an informational meeting on Monday, September 29th, 2025 from 6-8pm at Lutheran Church of Hope in Grimes. At the informational meeting, we shared details regarding site location, floor plans and layouts, and pricing. Our builder, John Larson with J Larson Homes, was in attendance and connected with potential residents. He was able to answer any questions regarding the inclusive residential condominiums. We were invited to speak at the September Lunch and Learn, an event sponsored by the Grimes Chamber of Commerce. We continue working to get the word out about The Home Place and our goal to build integrated housing.

We had a great turnout for “Happy Hour with The Home Place” our first informational event on August 7th, 2023. Thank you to all who attended and to everyone who helped spread the word about this event. Please continue to share our mission. Stay tuned for an announcement regarding future events.
